GARRY NEWMAN'S MODIFICATION

I have so many hours on this gaemm,,,,,

childhood

as I mentioned on the home page, I grew up on source games,
and gmod was the main one :P

ofc I still played other games, still alive from portal even ended up being my comfort song to sing whenever I'm scared
but gmod was EASILY the most played

a gmod player using a physgun on someone in a couch

played it for hours every day, loving each and every second of creation
eventually, I found... THE DUPLICATOR TOOL

if you were to have looked at my steam page a few months ago you would have seen... two thousand workshop items... those were almost all dupes
hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of these extremely low quality dupes were plastered there ;-; I've just since deleted a lot of them
most of them were a young kid's imagination, editing bones of random npcs and giving them colors before giving them nonsense names.

that made up a lot of my free time, like a hyperfixation that never stopped
if you look through a lot of them, you'll even see my fnaf and undertale phases lol

unlimited creation

gmod is THE ultimate sandbox. an inimitable king, never to be slain, for he is good,,,, kinda like gaben

you seen jbmod before? mostly negative. I know it's TECHNICALLY not a ripoff, but seriously, have you seen their ad campaign?
gmod THRIVES off of its assets and style, after all, the old classic sound of source engine ragdoll jank is inseparable from it

mounting games has opened the door to thousands if not hundreds of thousands of gmod animations, it's so beautiful.

addons leave the door WIDE open to do anything! ever wondered how glitch productions got their start?

twas gmod. SMG4 is (or was, I haven't been keeping up) animated entirely on gmod using a few mario model addons, and is how they got their popularity to kickstart Glitch.
anyone can hop on, and create, or even just fight zombies or something :P

it's easily the game I have the most hours on, and I recommend it to anyone, even if you don't have a creative mind. gmod is something that can never and will never be created again.

s&box

it's just... not the same

all the charm is lost in it. it's just this soulless sandbox game that tries to ride off the success of gmod

a screencap of a bean-like human in the game s&box

I get if this is an insane take and that it's a passion project, but I just can't see it as a good game
part of the reason gmod thrived was the fact that you were messing with half life 2 or tf2 assets, and that the ragdolls were so goofy
source jank is integral to gmod's identity, and you can't just rip that away and expect a runaway success

yet, all of that is lost in s&box.

..I guess I don't really have a good reason to care tho. I'm not being forced to play it or anything, and gmod still receives consistent support and updates
I- I dunno, just disappointed.

yayyy

thank you for reading my psychotic and very long rant about a game that I almost have 4000 hours on
